Cindy Mustard doesn’t just promote community service work and volunteerism as executive director of Columbia’s Voluntary Action Center—she also supports various organizations by personally participating in activities and outreach to improve the lives of local families and children. In addition to her work at the Voluntary Action Center, Ms. Mustard serves as a Boys and Girls Club advisory board member, Boone County Related Agencies treasurer, Kappa Kappa Gamma philanthropy advisor, commissioner on the Cultural Affairs Committee for the City of Columbia, First Presbyterian Church board member, Interfaith Council of the Churches member, Service Learning Advisory Board member for Columbia Public Schools, and a Service Learning Advisory Board member for the University of Missouri. She has also been a Columbia Chamber of Commerce board member, Friends of Rusk board member, Downtown Rotary board member and Women’s Network Steering Committee member in past years. Ms. Mustard hopes the P.R.I.D.E. outreach will take more of Columbia’s children from life on the streets and instead provide them a safe and nurturing environment in which to grow and develop. She also hopes P.R.I.D.E. will contribute to the overall social goals of many local community service organizations: provide employment and decent living wages for all Columbians, improve graduation rates, lessen the occurrence of teenage pregnancies, ensure every child has a positive role model, and ultimately produce a new generation of citizens concerned with bettering the world and helping others.
