As a longtime administrator for Columbia Public Schools, Dr. Jacque Cowherd saw first-hand the positive impact structured environments and caring, involved adults have on children's lives. That is one reason he joined the P.R.I.D.E. board of directors — to help promote a positive community environment and support all Columbia children by providing a community center with recreation and meeting space as well as an encouraging atmosphere and constructive activities. Dr. Cowherd has also made a point to be involved in his community and neighborhood through PTA groups and church activities in addition to being a Boy Scouts committee member and Eagle Scout advisor because he believes the success of a community is dependent on the strength of its neighborhoods. He hopes to see Columbia embrace its growth with a renewed focus on its neighborhoods, and he hopes P.R.I.D.E. will foster life-long positive attributes for Columbia’s children in addition to being a center for education, growth, and development that supplements their home and school lives.
