As founder and director of Columbia’s Successful Neighborhood Resource Center, Almeta Crayton sees first-hand, everyday the positive impact Columbia’s citizens and neighbors have on one other when they take time to care for others, teach them, and empower them with the knowledge and tools to improve their own lives. Because she is a benefactor of community service programs herself, Ms. Crayton donates her time to charitable and civic organizations, contributing her experience, advice and support. She has served on the Boone County Community Partnership board, the Welfare Working Partnership board, the Toys for Tots committee, the Columbia Family Health board, the local Salvation Army chapter board, and the Governor’s Council on Women’s Health, among many, many others. Ms. Crayton also helps her fellow Columbians, day or night, however she’s needed. Whether feeding the hungry, tutoring children, counseling those with no one to turn to, or helping others find necessities like housing and jobs, Ms. Crayton serves others selflessly. She hopes P.R.I.D.E. will give central Columbia’s citizens in need and volunteers one location where all members of the community can come together to help each other.
