Tracy Edwards helps kids through organizations such as First Ward Ambassadors because unlike the days of his childhood, he sees a lack of positive male role models for children today. Through sports, Mr. Edwards serves as a big brother for Columbia’s kids, someone they can talk to about anything. In addition to being Chief Ambassador of the First Ward Ambassadors and a P.R.I.D.E. board member, he co-founded the Dream Team Foundation, co-founded Moonlight Hoops through Parks and Recreation, and plays basketball with more than 100 kids every night at Douglas Park through Parks and Recreation programs. He hopes to see the P.R.I.D.E. facility become a place central Columbia kids and service organizations can call home, a one-stop resource center where kids can participate in various positive activities like art, sports, reading, tutoring, and working with computers. There, kids will see their mentors and coaches on a daily basis instead of weekly, and that will enable them to better relate to their instructors. Mr. Edwards also hopes P.R.I.D.E. will contribute toward his hope for Columbia’s future — lowering our crime rate and keeping Columbia’s black children from jail through education, training, and positive influence at a young age.
