Born and raised in Columbia, Mo., Wynna Faye Elbert has a passion for working with teens and issues related to the rights of underserved communities. Since the young age of 15, she has been involved with programs such as the junior branch of the NAACP, Columbia Parks and Recreation, and the Frederick Douglass Coalition.

After graduating from Stephens College with Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees, Elbert earned her master's degree in community development at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Famously, she spent 20 years on the radio waves of KOPN with the one-of-a-kind show "Straight Talk," for which she was awarded recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives.

Now, after nearly 30 years of citywide service, Elbert remains involved with the parks and recreation department where she's developed a successful night program for local teens. With her formidable reputation and steady passion for solving community-wide, teen-related problems, she has changed the future for many of mid-Missouri's young people by using the positive stepping stones P.R.I.D.E. has to offer them. Elbert hopes P.R.I.D.E. will continue to serve local youth as a resource in every capacity - mentally, recreationally, even creatively - for years to come.
